Now Brewing: Sparkling Cucumber Limeade. I used to hate seltzer water, but then LaCroix started making delicious flavors like this blackberry cucumber. Now I drink it all the time and am always trying new combinations. I love this one because it’s super refreshing and reminds me of a summertime drink…and I just can’t quite let go of summer yet.
Even though I love being able to bring words to life, I’ve always wished I had a bit more artistic ability (I am so challenged in this area that my middle school art teacher kindly suggested that I not pursue art in high school).
So needless to say I am insanely envious of everyone with this ability and Week 2 of the #15MinutePassionProject got me feeling all sorts of hobby-jealous.
Ally, who decided to spend her 15 minutes crafting, has all of the talent I wish I did. She’s been a crafter for the last few years and I am always in awe of the pieces she shares on her social media sites. Just take a look around Ally’s Etsy Shop and you’ll see what I mean. Luckily for the rest of us who aren’t as artsy, I got the inside scoop on her talent in this week’s
Passion Project piece.
Got a neat hobby? It’s not too late to join Ally and others in the #15MinutePassionProject. Shoot me a note about what you’ll use you 15 for.
Thank you to Ally, who took time out of her busy second-year teacher schedule to share her passion with us in this week’s Q&A. Enjoy!
15 Minutes of Crafting
When did you start crafting and what inspired you to start? What was your first project?
I’m not honestly sure when I started… I think in college my friends and I decided to have a craft night, despite my lack of crafting abilities and I ended up enjoying it and finding I was pretty good. That was the first time I really did any crafting that I enjoyed – it was a canvas with some sort of Christmas saying on it.
What is your favorite thing to make?
I love painting and writing quotes on my work. I actually started an Etsy shop this year to sell these canvases because I’ve amassed so many.
Do you watch TV or listen to music while you work?
I usually watch TV, a movie, or a sporting event.
What do you love most about crafting?
I love how calming it is and feeling like I can express my favorite quotes and thoughts through the quotes I pick. I also like how cute the crafts are.
Do your friends or family work on projects along with you?
Sometimes my friends or my sister, Carrie, will craft with me. Depends when I’m crafting!
Name three (3) things you absolutely always have on hand in case crafty ideas strike.
Paint, canvases, Pinterest
Do you have a favorite snack or beverage when you’re working?
I never turn down a good bottle of wine, but I don’t always have something.
How many projects do you have on the go at one time?
Depends on the project and the time of year. During the summer, I have more projects going than I do in the beginning of the school year.
What’s the most challenging project you’ve ever completed?
Burlap wreath. It took me FOREVER to figure out how to even do it. It was so frustrating to not have it come easily to me.
Do you have a latest WIP (Work in progress)?
I’d say my burlap wreaths are a recent WIP. I don’t currently have one I’m making. But it’s my recent favorite thing to make and being fall – I need to make a few more.
What’s your favorite thing you have ever made?
These are two are some of my favorites. Also my most recent burlap wreath – that I don’t have a picture of.
What/who do you go to for inspiration before you start crafting?
Could you sum yourself up as a crafter in 3 words?
Quick, Hobbyist, Fun
Any advice for new crafters?
Don’t try to copy someone else’s work exactly. Crafting is for you to express yourself and show your personality through your work.
Still wishing I was crafty,
